The Russian team finished third in the medal standings at the 2026 Paralympic Games. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko congratulated the Russian Paralympic team on their outstanding achievements.
“I congratulate our team on their brilliant performance at the 14th Winter Paralympics in Italy! Russian athletes won eight gold, one silver and three bronze medals. They secured third place, despite competing with only six athletes – significantly fewer than other leading teams. As President Putin noted, the foundation of this success lies in relentless hard work, belief in one’s own abilities and dedication to one’s chosen sport. In the current circumstances, our athletes have demonstrated to the world that Russia rings with pride. Thank you for the spectacular performance, unwavering determination, and joy you have given us,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
He added that, for the first time in 12 years, Russian athletes entered the opening ceremony under the national flag and to the sound of the national anthem. This success was made possible thanks to the efforts of the Russian Olympic and Paralympic committees, the Ministry of Sport, and the relevant sports federations.
Participants in the Games included alpine skiers Alexei Bugaev and Varvara Voronchikhina; cross-country skiers Ivan Golubkov, Anastasia Bagiyan, and Sergei Sinyakin; and snowboarders Dmitry Fadeyev and Philipp Shebbo.
Gold medals were won by cross-country skiers Anastasia Bagiyan (three-time Paralympic champion) and Ivan Golubkov (two victories), and alpine skiers Varvara Voronchikhina (two golds) and Alexei Bugaev (one gold).
Varvara Voronchikhina also won silver in alpine skiing, giant slalom. Bronze medals went to Alexei Bugaev (alpine skiing, downhill and giant slalom) and Varvara Voronchikhina (alpine skiing, downhill).
