As part of a visit to Baku, Azerbaijan, Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk was received by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
During the meeting, the Russian side sincerely thanked the leadership of Azerbaijan for providing prompt assistance during the evacuation of Russian citizens from the Islamic Republic of Iran against the backdrop of a complicated and tense regional situation.
The officials had a detailed exchange of views on the agenda of Azerbaijan-Russia relations.
It was noted during the conversation that, acting in accordance with agreements between the leaders of Russia and Azerbaijan during their 9 October 2025 meeting in Dushanbe, the sides will soon implement a range of practical steps for resolving problems caused by the AZAL airliner’s crash on 25 December 2024.
The parties emphasised their mutual commitment to facilitating the sustained development of mutually beneficial trade, economic, investment, industrial, transport and logistics cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan.
They reviewed prospects for developing regional lines of communication.
The sides reaffirmed their common intention to continue developing the North – South international transport corridor.
They also discussed some humanitarian issues.
The meeting took place in a friendly and constructive atmosphere which is traditionally typical of Russian-Azerbaijani interstate dialogue.
