The officials discussed preparation for the 11th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, scheduled to take place in Windhoek in 2026.
“Maintaining and strengthening friendly relations between Russia and Namibia is a key priority of our cooperation. President of Namibia Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who visited Russia several times at our invitation, invariably expressed her interest in these visits and a friendly attitude to our country. Please, convey our gratitude for her friendly attitude and our best regard to her,” Yury Trutnev stated.
“We highly appreciate relations between our countries and attach great importance to their development,” Selma Ashipala-Musavyi noted.
The co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Russian-Namibian Commission discussed the further development of bilateral economic ties. “In 2024, trade between our countries almost doubled to $11.7 million. In January to October 2025, it further increased to $17.3 million. It is not a substantial figure for Russia or Namibia, but they are proof of the potential for building up bilateral contacts in various economic sectors,” Yury Trutnev said.
“Speaking about economic indicators, we are aware of certain progress, but we believe we can do more,” Selma Ashipala-Musavyi pointed out.
The parties also discussed the strengthening of cooperation in geology, mineral resources and education, as well as the possibility of expanding the bilateral settlement infrastructure.
The Russian party expressed support for the idea of the Namibian colleagues on holding a business forum on the sidelines of the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission.
Wrapping up the meeting, Yury Trutnev recalled Russia’s unwavering support for Namibia during its liberation war. “We will remain your friends and will continue to strengthen ties between Russia and Namibia,” he added.
