Mikhail Mishustin’s remarks:
Good afternoon, colleagues and dear friends,
Representatives of the most diverse media outlets, including newspapers, magazines, news agencies, television channels, radio stations and new multimedia formats have gathered here today.
All of you celebrate 13 January as a common professional holiday. On this day, over 320 years ago, the first issue of the Vedomosti newspaper came off the press.
It has become a good tradition for all press representatives to mark this date. I therefore congratulate you, and I wish you creative successes and new achievements in your difficult profession.
Today, we are holding an awards ceremony for the journalists who won the 2025 Government Prize.
The President has stressed that the sovereignty of Russia that we have fought and will always fight for, depends, among other things, on our ability to communicate objective and unbiased information to people around the world. Media professionals play an important role here, of course.
You care about our country, willing to defend the objective point of view. Most importantly, you show genuine interest in and care about the people who feature in your reports. I want to thank you for your responsible attitude to your job.
Now, to the winners.
First and foremost, we have war correspondents. These men are fearless and selfless. They often become targets for our enemies. Sometimes we lose them.
We lost Semyon Yeryomin from Izvestia. He was killed in a drone strike in Zaporozhye. His fellow members of the multimedia newsdesk Dmitry Zimenkin, Valentin Trushnin and Vladimir Sotnikov have repeatedly been under attack, fulfiling their professional duty.
Their colleague from Komsomolskaya Pravda Grigory Kubatyan went to the special military operation as a volunteer. He was wounded and continues to work as a war correspondent, telling the audience about our defenders.
NTV correspondent Ilya Ushenin has been at the frontline many times. He made 134 trips to Donbass in 2025.
Thanks to Channel One journalists Amir Yusupov, Valentin Stukanog and Ilya Repnin we know every detail of the unique Operation Stream in the Kursk Region, when our troops passed through a gas pipeline to liberate Sudzha. These journalists filmed every stage, from technical preparations to the final battle.
Entire journalist crews sometimes work in frontline conditions. One such crew is from Belgorodskaya Pravda. Not only do they cover current affairs but also help the military and civilians in the border areas.
The Government Prize was also presented to the team of Radio Alyans that developed radio broadcasting in the new regions. It is thanks to them that the residents of these Russian regions can receive daily updates from Donetsk FM, Lugansk FM, Zaporozhye FM and Kherson FM.
The team of the Don 24 channel from the Rostov Region has come up with a coverage format that has attracted foreign audiences. Since the first days of the special military operation, they have produced a news and analysis programme called As It Is that widely covers our defenders’ heroic deeds.
This programme has also been available to the Serbian audience for over two and a half years.
Journalists are increasingly dedicating themselves to preserving historical memory.
A project of particular importance to this legacy is Died for the Truth. Organised with the assistance of the Regnum news agency, it has identified the names of all media professionals who have lost their lives in defence of the Russian World since 2014 – a list of more than 60 individuals. We will forget not a single one of them.
Our commitment to remember extends also to those who fulfilled their professional duty during the Great Patriotic War. Their experience continues to inspire a new generation of correspondents on the front lines. It is in honour of these journalists that the Ryazanskie Vedomosti newspaper created the Voyenkory (Frontline Reporters) project.
In recent years, we have witnessed growing attempts to falsify history. As the President remarked in an address to your colleagues, to win the battle for hearts and minds, you must continue to wield your secret strategic weapon – high-precision, intercontinental, and powerful: the truth.
This is precisely the mission being carried out by Rodina magazine, whose staff are among today’s award recipients. The publication has succeeded in uniting those with a deep passion for Russian history.
The same is true of Alexei Denisov, editor-in-chief of the History channel at VGTRK and creator of a major documentary series. He has produced more than 100 films exploring our wars and victories, and the remarkable individuals who shaped those events.
Colleagues,
Selecting journalists worthy of the Government Media Award is never easy. Ours is a vast country, and in every region there are those whose articles, films, programmes, and reporting are instantly recognised by their audience. Readers, viewers, and listeners know well where to find quality information. Their trust is the ultimate proof of your professionalism. This is especially vital when it comes to young people. Periodicals and books for children and teenagers should enlighten, educate, and inspire, shaping a healthy worldview. This is the principle guiding award winners from Smolensk and the Irkutsk Region.
In the Chukotka Autonomous Area, the voice of Anastasia Lavrentyeva is immediately recognised by her loyal radio audience.
Facing new challenges, regional media continue to carefully uphold their experience and traditions. For decades, Vechernyaya Moskva has provided a vital feedback channel for the capital’s residents, responding to public requests.
So, too, have television channels such as TV Centre and Ren TV, which command a wide viewership across the nation.
People will always listen to and watch only those they trust – a fact demonstrated by the international broadcaster TV-Novosti. For over 20 years, and despite attempts to restrict its reach in the West, it has continued to grow its audience, including across the Global South.
The same enduring appeal belongs to Radio Rossii, whose engaging programmes and radio plays have enjoyed unwavering popularity for more than 35 years.
We also honour today a team from Kaliningrad, who created two platforms for professional journalists and concerned citizens dedicated to animal welfare: the international competition for Russian-language media and bloggers, With Pen and Heart, and the international award My Sweet and Cherished Beast. Initiatives like these are in great demand both in Russia and abroad.
Colleagues,
Before we begin the ceremony, I would like to express once again my heartfelt gratitude for your dedication, determination, and devotion to your profession and to your nation.
I am confident that your work will continue to be truly needed by your readers, listeners, and viewers.
