Mikhail Mishustin at the ceremony to present Government Prizes in Culture for 2025
Mikhail Mishustin’s opening remarks:
Good afternoon, friends.
Today we will honour the winners of the Government Prize in Culture for 2025.
Each of these seven projects is unique in its field. They introduce our children and adults to fundamental values and create a common creative environment that runs across the vastly different regions of Russia. Such novel ideas and solutions are changing people’s lives throughout the country.
The President has mentioned the effect of culture on the solution of many social and economic problems, above all, an appropriate upbringing of a new generation of citizens who will determine Russia’s future.
Our winners certainly pursue these priorities, which is especially important now that Russia is defending its citizens and its independence, a right to historical justice and our spiritual heritage. At such moments, culture is the most reliable consolidating power of society.
I will say some words about our laureates.
One of the key topics in our history and culture, for the country in general and for each of us, is preservation of the memory about our servicemen’s feats of arms. More so that 2025 is the year of the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland and of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
This is why the Government awarded the authors of the memorial complex on the bank of Chudskoye Lake in the Pskov Region. This project is dedicated to the memory of the Battle on the Ice when our ancestors rebuffed an invasion from the West. It is a very important material for educational programmes and patriotic education of our young people.
Another meaningful educational project named Atom has been opened at the VDNKh (Exhibition of People’s Economic Achievements) in Moscow. Its showcases the nuclear age of our country, its nuclear industry and, of course, the future of our energy industry. Meanwhile, children and teenagers learn about the latest scientific developments and research at the lectures and master classes in physics held there. This attracts them. And all of this occurs in a museum with a unique architectural structure based on state-of-the-art engineering, construction and technologic achievements.
The author of the project whom we owe the appearance of such a space has been awarded a government prize.
The laureates include people who know how to create platforms for interaction. These are truly creative managers who organise competitions and festivals, promote new names and new talents, and give our young people the opportunity to prove themselves and meet the masters.
One of such projects is The Circus Princess international festival involving gifted girls from a variety of countries, who devoted themselves to this art. The festival has been held in Saratov for over 20 years; it promotes sharing of experience and expanding ties and contacts between the troupes.
The initiative on helping cinematography in the regions is also demonstrative of the diversity of the cultural palette. I am referring to the “Russia: Looking into the Future” project, a contest designed to promote documentary film-making in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Over its four years in existence, support has been granted to 120 films. Many of these won awards or were shown on central TV channels or streaming services. These documentary films form an important part of public dialogue that helps to better understand the world around us.
The Seeing the Music festival of Russian musical theatres is memorable for its vivid emotions and impressions. It has become something of a tradition to award the All-Russia Legend Prize on its sidelines and thus pay a tribute of respect to outstanding stage professionals in this genre.
The project enables each company, whether big or small, famous or emergent, to show their best productions. The festival offers opportunities for cooperation rather than rivalry and encourages efforts to address common artistic and professional tasks.
Of special importance is certainly the work to preserve unique creations and monuments of culture, which secure the continuity of intellectual and spiritual progress of society.
The Pyatigorsk Museum Reserve has come up with a display that demonstrates an innovative approach to rethinking Mikhail Lermontov’s creative work. The display combines original artifacts with cutting-edge technological solutions. Seeing photographs and videos or hearing musical performances is a format that enjoys high demand from visitors in all age groups, particularly young people.
The Government Prize has been awarded to the Tambov Drama Theatre for its play “In the Lilac Garden” dedicated to the 150th birth anniversary of the composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. It traces almost three decades of his life and work associated with the Tambov soil and offers yet another opportunity for enjoying the great musician’s creations.
Our President has made a point of stressing that it is necessary to do all we can for the preservation of historical and cultural heritage in the regions. We must ensure that they retain their authenticity so that people feel the continuity over time.
It is for this reason that the Government has developed a programme to preserve cultural heritage sites of the peoples of Russia for the period until 2045. A directive to this effect has been signed.
It includes plans to put in order over 1,000 facilities and train skilled specialists. There is much to do in the regions, of course. Moreover, the development of historical settlements and key localities should be synchronised with the implementation of the Tourism and Hospitality national project.
We hope that cultural figures will be most active in addressing these tasks. In this regard, your devotion to your cause and your professionalism are absolutely indispensable.
