Dmitry Grigorenko opens The International Battle of Robots Championship finals
Moscow hosted the final stage of the International Robot Battle Championship. The opening ceremony was attended by Dmitry Grigorenko, Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the Government Staff. Thirty-two teams from Russia, India, China, Tunisia, Brazil and Iran reached the finals. The Battle of the Robots has been held annually since 2023 with the support from the Russian Government.
The objective of the Battle of Robots championship consists of promoting engineering professions in Russia, supporting the latest digital technologies, as well as training talent for this field and developing their practical skills.
“The Battle of Robots is a unique platform where engineers and software developers can demonstrate not only their skills, but also their creativity. Here they have the opportunity to put their theoretical knowledge into practice and bring their innovative ideas to life. Such events help train dedicated specialists and give them the opportunity to realise their talents at such a young age. The state actively supports the interest of young people in robotics and digital technologies, because they are the ones who will shape the digital economy and Russian technologies in the future with their own hands,” Dmitry Grigorenko said.
The Deputy Prime Minister also noted that the Battle of Robots is getting bigger every year and its geography is expanding, which indicates young people’s growing interest in robotics. Thus, more than 450 people took part in the third edition of the championship for a total of 112 teams from 8 countries (Russia, Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Tunisia, China and Brazil). This was almost twice as much as in the first season in 2023 when there were 267 participants.
The event attracts not only participants who create robots for duels, but also the audience. Over the past three years, over 62 million people watched live broadcasts of the Battle of the Robots, and over 56,000 people attended the championship in person, not counting the final stage of the 2025 championship season.
Both school pupils and university students, as well as other robotics aficionados and corporate competitors take part in the Battle of Robots. The competition is held in two categories: Battle of Robots (up to 110 kg) – for participants of all ages; Battle of mini-robots (up to 1.5 kg) – for participants aged between 10 and 17 years old.
Importantly, IT companies play a proactive role in this championship. The most promising participants in the Battle of Robots benefit from robotics internships: in 2025, 10 internship agreements have already been concluded with leading IT companies in Russia. Thus, the championship serves as a bridge between young professionals and the industry: participants get not only an opportunity to show their engineering skills but also a chance to move on to obtain professional experience and meet future employers. Thirty participants have already been pre-selected and are ready for internships, and two more have received offers and have started internships.
The final stage of the 2025 Robot Battle Championship was coordinated by the Russian Ministry of Finance with the support from the Moscow Government.
