Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, co-chair of the Intergovernmental Russian-Cuban Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation, held a working meeting with Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organisation of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. The parties discussed bilateral cooperation, including humanitarian, trade, and economic interaction.
The meeting took place as part of Roberto Morales Ojeda’s first visit to Russia in his current position. The event was also attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Russian Federation Enrique Horta González, and members of the National Assembly of People’s Power of the Republic of Cuba: Emilio Lozada García, Head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party; Ailyn Álvarez García, First Vice-Rector of the Nico López Communist Party University; Julio Heriberto Gómez Casanova, First Secretary of the Ciego de Ávila Provincial Party Committee, along with representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Economic Development.
“In recent years, thanks to the efforts of our heads of state – Russian President Vladimir Putin and Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel – we have reached a qualitatively new level of cooperation. We are doing everything possible to implement the agreements reached by our leaders. This year has been marked by significant events and anniversaries: the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the 65th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Russia and Cuba. We are very grateful that the President of Cuba took part in the commemorative events in Moscow,” Dmitry Chernyshenko underscored.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that Russia had worried about Cuba and its neighbors when Hurricane Melissa arrived. From its first days, our country rendered humanitarian aid to our Cuban friends.
Roberto Morales Ojeda stated, “We thank you, the Russian Government and the people, for your solidarity regarding the humanitarian aid to the hurricane-stricken areas.”
Dmitry Chernyshenko noted that regular contacts are maintained through the Intergovernmental Russian-Cuban Commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation, which remains the key platform for the activities under the entire set of Russian-Cuban relations. He also highly appreciated the results of the 22nd Commission meeting in Havana on April 4, that launched operation of the UAZ automotive assembly complex at the EISA, a Cuban company, as well as the grand opening of the Southern Federal University branch in Havana.
This year, the Cuban delegation participated in the 28th St Petersburg International Economic Forum where the first Russian-Cuban business dialogue was held. In its turn, a Russian delegation was sent to take part in the FIHAV 2025 – 41st Havana International Fair, where it represents its national exposition as usual. The fair is held on November 24–29, in Havana.
“There is one more good news both for doing business and for increasing the tourist exchange: Rossiya Airlines has resumed its Moscow — Havana direct flights as of 26 October. Starting on 2 November, Venezuelan Conviasa will begin its regular St Petersburg — Varadero flights,” added the Russian Deputy Prime Minister.
Roberto Morales Ojeda emphasised that Russians constitute a considerable part of the general tourist flow, so active cooperation between the two countries in tourism will continue, including thanks to the new projects.
