A ceremony marking the transfer of Russian language textbooks to the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic took place in Bishkek during a meeting of the Russian-Kyrgyz Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Humanitarian Cooperation, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexei Overchuk and Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers – Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Adylbek Kasymaliev .
The textbooks, designed for Grades 1, 2, 5 and 7 in schools with instruction in Russian, are being provided under a bilateral educational initiative. So far, 610,000 textbooks have been delivered, and the total supply will reach 651,000 by the end of the year.
“As part of our friendly assistance, Russia is donating 651,000 Russian language textbooks jointly developed and adapted for Kyrgyz schools. We are delighted to hand over the certificate for these materials to our Kyrgyz friends. Over 90 percent of the textbooks have already arrived in the republic and will soon be distributed to schools. We are also sending Russian teachers to work in Kyrgyz schools,” Alexei Overchuk noted.
The special programme for the Kyrgyz Republic is being implemented by the Russian Ministry of Education, with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Earlier in 2025, a joint working group was formed, and Russian-Kyrgyz author teams were approved, bringing together teachers, researchers and education specialists. These teams have developed and adapted teaching materials for schools with both Russian and Kyrgyz as languages of instruction, covering Grades 1, 2, 5 and 7.
The programme for the development, adaptation, and supply of Russian language and literature textbooks will continue in 2026.
