During his visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, Alexei Overchuk and Adylbek Kasymaliev, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic, inspected the site of one of the schools being built as part of a Russian–Kyrgyz intergovernmental project to create joint comprehensive schools with Russian as the language of instruction.
The project envisions the construction of nine schools across all regions of Kyrgyzstan, including the capital. Construction is expected to be carried out in three stages, with three schools to be completed each year. The Bishkek school, part of the first stage, is scheduled to open on 1 September 2027.
Once completed, the new schools will provide over 11,000 Kyrgyz children with the opportunity to receive an education in Russian.
The schools will follow a combined curriculum based on the state educational standards of both Russia and Kyrgyzstan. Graduates will receive two certificates, Russian and Kyrgyz, thereby expanding their academic and professional opportunities.
Alexei Overchuk emphasised that education remains one of the key areas of bilateral cooperation. “The project to build nine Russian-language schools in Kyrgyzstan demonstrates the strength of our strategic partnership and our shared commitment to developing a common educational space based on mutual respect and trust,” he noted.
He also stressed the broader regional importance of the initiative. “Russian is the common language of all the peoples of the CIS. The opportunity to study school subjects in Russian and to speak it fluently is the key to the future for younger generations,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister further recalled that a humanitarian project, the Russian Teacher Abroad, and an international volunteer programme, the Ambassadors of the Russian Language in the World, are implemented in the republic. Special attention given to the training and professional development of teaching staff. Kyrgyzstan receives active support in the selection and retraining of teachers specialising in teaching Russian and subjects according to Russian standards.
Since 2019, the number of Russian teachers working
in Kyrgyzstan has increased more than twelvefold. In the current academic year
alone, over 200 Russian teachers are working in Kyrgyz schools – a clear sign
of the deepening and steady growth of educational cooperation between the two
countries.
