Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko has arrived in Ningbo, People’s Republic of China, on a working visit
At the ramp, he was greeted by Lu Shan, Deputy Governor of Zhejiang Province; Ren Xianfeng, Deputy Secretary-General of Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government; Ye Miao, Vice Mayor of Ningbo; and Zhang Dong, deputy department head at the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China.
During the visit, Dmitry Chernyshenko toured infrastructure facilities in the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan, got acquainted with its main vessel types, and reviewed its cooperation with Russian seaports.
He noted that Ningbo is the world’s largest port. The hub is strategically important for global trade, with Chinese President Xi Jinping having visited it eight times.
“Cooperation between Russia and China is rapidly progressing. As President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasised, the People’s Republic of China is our key trading partner. We are focused on practical cooperation and tangible results. It is symbolic that this October, the first transit voyage along the Northern Sea Route departed from Ningbo. The development of this route represents a highly promising area of cooperation. It is no coincidence that the Intergovernmental Russia-China Commission for Preparing Regular Meetings of the Heads of Government includes a separate subcommittee dedicated to the Northern Sea Route,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Dmitry Chernyshenko added that the port, as a major international hub, enables both countries to optimise transport routes, ensure reliable logistics, and reduce costs and delivery times.
The Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan is the world’s largest by cargo throughput and China’s leader in implementing smart logistics management technologies. It maintains connections with more than 600 ports in 190 countries, ensuring stable international trade flows.
According to the port administration, cargo handling volumes exceeded 1.2 billion tonnes in 2023 and reached 1.37 billion tonnes in 2024. The main cargo categories include oil, coal, ore, grain, liquid chemicals, and containerised goods.
During his working visit, Dmitry Chernyshenko will also take part in the 29th session of the Intergovernmental Russia-China Commission for Preparing Regular Meetings of the Heads of Government in Ningbo, review infrastructure facilities, and meet with the leadership and students of Zhejiang University in Hangzhou.
