Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk held a meeting with Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Hun Manet on the sidelines of the 20th East Asia Summit (EAS) in Malaysia.
Alexei Overchuk and Hun Manet discussed the current state and development outlook for bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Cambodia, including the implementation of joint energy, agricultural and industrial projects. In light of the rapid development of the Cambodian agrarian sector, the sides focused on the possibility of increasing the delivery of Russian fertilisers, developing ties in seed farming, and expanding the list of agricultural products for mutual supplies.
Hun Manet welcomed Russian companies’ interest in working in the Cambodian market and expressed Cambodia’s readiness to help develop the necessary bilateral contacts.
“We are interested in increasing trade with Cambodia and balancing exports and imports. We have much to offer you. Russia is ready to contribute to the food and energy security of the Kingdom of Cambodia,” Alexei Overchuk stated.
The sides also discussed the possibility of enhancing transport connectivity between the two countries and developing new supply chains between Russia and Cambodia.
That discussion included the further development of partner ties between Russia and Cambodia in the bilateral format and within multilateral associations.
The officials also talked about the potential for significant humanitarian projects. “We are ready to contribute to the renovation of the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital, which was built with Soviet assistance, after Cambodia provides the relevant technical parameters and proposals,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Based on the outcome of the meeting, the sides have agreed to maintain contacts at the government level and to promote interaction between their countries’ business communities.
