Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk held a working meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the 20th East Asia Summit in Malaysia.
Alexei Overchuk congratulated Malaysia on its successful ASEAN chairmanship and the adoption of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, which will guide the association’s future over the next 20 years and strengthen its sustainability and its role in regional processes.
He noted that Russia-Malaysia cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats relies on mutual respect and consideration of each other’s interests. Adherence to these principles creates the best possible environment for deepening partnership and trade connectivity between the countries over the long term.
Alexei Overchuk and Anwar Ibrahim discussed urgent Russian-Malaysian trade, economic, and humanitarian cooperation matters, focusing in particular on energy and agricultural projects, as well as on joint efforts to strengthen transport connectivity between Russia and Malaysia in order to expand the supply chains between northern and southern Eurasia.
The parties agreed to maintain contacts at the level of governments, financial institutions, and economic stakeholders. That includes holding a meeting of the Joint Russian-Malaysian Commission on Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation in November.
