Alexei Overchuk expressed great appreciation for Kuala Lumpur’s constructive approach to promoting the Russia-ASEAN dialogue and pointed out that deeper cooperation with the association remained an unchanging priority for developing Russia’s foreign economic ties.
The parties noted the considerable potential for increasing and diversifying bilateral trade. In January-August 2025, their trade increased by 32.1 percent compared to the same period last year and amounted to $2.47 billion.
The Russian side sees good prospects for building up its supplies of energy resources, pharmaceutical preparations, and industrial equipment, including medical equipment, to Malaysia. There is substantial export potential in various agricultural products, primarily grain crops and livestock products. Cooperation in nuclear energy is also promising. Russia is ready to offer Malaysia its solutions for building high-capacity nuclear power plants and small modular reactors.
The parties emphasised that humanitarian cooperation is also of great importance in bilateral relations. Russian and Malaysian universities are implementing their cooperation agreements. Both countries are interested in developing tourism. Malaysia is on the list of countries whose citizens are eligible for a single-entry electronic visa for business and tourism trips, as well as participation in scientific, cultural and sports events.
