Alexander Novak’s working meeting with Energy Minister of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov
Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak had a working meeting with Energy Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov on the sidelines of Russian Energy Week.
The parties discussed the ongoing cooperation in the gas, oil, and nuclear industries.
They notes that Gazprom continues to pursue its contract for the supply of natural gas to Uzbekistan, totaling 7.7 billion cubic metres per year. There is also significant potential for increasing gas exports, including in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
In 2024, Russia supplied 233,500 tonnes of oil to Uzbekistan. Oil and gas companies from the two countries are exploring opportunities for joint projects aimed at developing hard-to-recover reserves in Uzbekistan.
A key area of cooperation between the two countries is the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. Under the agreements reached, the project envisions the construction of two power units with a capacity of 1,000 MW each and two additional units with a capacity of 55 MW each. Construction of the first power unit of the small nuclear power plant began in October 2025.
