Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk holds working meeting with Minister of Industry, Mining, and Trade of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Atabak
Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexei Overchuk conducted a working meeting with Minister of Industry, Mining, and Trade of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Atabak.
The parties discussed key areas of trade and economic collaboration, with particular emphasis on the prospects for implementing the Free Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran, advancing integration efforts following Iran’s observer status within the EAEU, and joint endeavours to enhance connectivity across Eurasia along the North-South axis. They reviewed progress on joint projects in transport and logistics, industry, energy, agriculture, and tourism.
It was noted that the year 2025 has been a landmark for Russian-Iranian relations – in January, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement was signed, legally formalising the special nature of bilateral ties, while the EAEU-Iran Free Trade Agreement, which came into force on 15 May, has created new opportunities for business development.
“We are already witnessing positive momentum: over the seven months of this year, our bilateral trade turnover has increased by 11.8 percent year-on-year. If we examine figures from May to July 2025 – that is, since the Free Trade Agreement took effect – we observe trade growth of 35 percent,” emphasised the Deputy Prime Minister.
As an important step in deepening multilateral cooperation, the parties highlighted the inaugural meeting of the Joint Committee on Implementing the EAEU-Iran Free Trade Agreement, scheduled for 24 September. During the session, a joint action plan on trade and economic collaboration between the EAEU and Iran for 2025–2028 is expected to be adopted. It was also noted that the Iranian delegation plans to participate in the upcoming session of the Eurasian Economic Commission’s Council during the current visit.
“The forthcoming events will facilitate the Islamic Republic of Iran’s deeper integration into the Eurasian economic space,” stated Alexei Overchuk.

commitment to continuing constructive dialogue aimed at strengthening
Russian-Iranian relations across all areas of cooperation.
