Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko held a meeting with Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerbol Myrzabosynov.
Other participants included Minister of Sport of Russia Mikhail Degtyaryov, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dmitry Vakhrukov, and Special Representative of the Foreign Minister for International Sports Cooperation Mikhail Khorev, as well as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation Dauren Abayev.
“In the current geopolitical situation, Kazakhstan and Russia remain closest friends, true allies, and strategic partners. Our relations rely on friendly and deeply trust-based ties between our national leaders — President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. During my working visit to Kazakhstan on September 10, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov and I discussed cooperation between our two countries in various spheres,” Dmitry Chernyshenko said.
The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the Kazakh delegation for the participation of its athletes in competitions across five sports as part of the International Sports Games named after the Holy Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky and invited them to the International Sports Forum Russia — a Sporting Power.
Dmitry Chernyshenko highlighted cooperation in tourism as well.
“For Russians, Kazakhstan is among the top three most popular foreign tourist destinations. In the first half of 2025, the tourist arrivals in Kazakhstan totaled 2.3 million,” he said.
Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerbol Myrzabosynov noted regular invitations to conferences and exhibitions.
“In April 2025, Russian travel agencies took part in the 23rd Kazakhstan International Tourism and Travel Exhibition in Almaty. Today, this platform, which brings together about 500 companies from different countries, serves as a venue for a dialogue and exchange of experience. Russia presented exhibition booths from the Altai Territory and St Petersburg. The Altai Territory is making great strides as an eco-friendly tourist destination. In winter, it offers ski resorts, and in summer tourist routes, agro-tourism, and eco-tourism. Russia boasts enormous tourism potential and rich experience,” he said.
During the meeting, Yerbol Myrzabosynov requested support in organising a Kazakh delegation visit to the Altai Territory. He noted that Kazakhstan is developing the Shymbulak Mountain Ski Resort, which has already become one of the country’s most popular year-round destinations, attracting about 1.5 million visitors last year.
He also reported that in 2024 Kazakh athletes participated in over 30 sports events.
“Russia is a sporting country. We value your experience in training athletes and organising major competitions. It is important for us to learn from this experience and develop joint projects,” he added.
Minister of Sport and Chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee Mikhail Degtyaryov emphasised that within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and on the instructions of President Vladimir Putin, an initiative is being discussed in conjunction with our Kazakh colleagues to hold an international competition next year with the participation of SCO member states in an open format. He noted that it would mark a new milestone in promoting sports.
“Kazakh athletes annually participate in many Russian competitions. In September, the Alexander Nevsky Games were held in St Petersburg. I’m grateful to the Kazakh side for sending a team. The results were excellent. In the near future, our athletes will meet in Azerbaijan at the CIS Games. The first Winter Spartakiad of CIS countries for children with disabilities will take place in Ufa in December. We will be glad to see a delegation from Kazakhstan. I especially want to thank our colleagues from Kazakhstan for supporting Russian athletes in international arenas. We sense this solidarity and greatly appreciate it,” Mikhail Degtyaryov said.
Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia Dmitry Vakhrukov said the key indicators of the Tourism and Hospitality national project demonstrate a goal-oriented and measurable approach.
“We plan to increase the sector’s contribution to GDP to 5 percent and bring the number of trips by 50 million. This will be achieved, among other things, with 16 million foreign visitors by 2030 and growing domestic demand. The total volume of investment in the sector is estimated at 3.5 trillion rubles by 2030, with private capital accounting for over 75 percent of that amount. Our objective is to ensure that every rouble from the budget brings multiple roubles in return. This is an ambitious, yet a well-calculated goal that can be achieved through consolidated work with the regions and businesses,” Dmitry Vakhrukov said.
