Dmitry Chernyshenko meets with Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov
Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko has held a working meeting with Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov in Astana. The officials discussed bilateral cooperation in digitalisation and innovations, sport, tourism and education.
They noted that the trust-based dialogue and regular contacts between President Vladimir Putin and President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev helped develop stable economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between Russia and Kazakhstan, and that bilateral relations were developing in the spirit of strategic partnership and alliance.
The Russian official conveyed best regards from Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and pointed out that Kazakhstan and Russia remained close friends and true allies and strategic partners.
“We are grateful to your Government for its consistent policy of strengthening our bilateral relations. We proceed from the comradely and trust-based relations between our leaders, President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev,” Mr Chernyshenko stated.
Mutual trade reached $12 billion in January — June 2025.
“Our mutual trade is substantial. Russia is the second largest trade partner of Kazakhstan after China, accounting for 19.7 percent of Kazakhstan’s foreign trade,” the deputy prime minister added.
When the officials discussed tourism, Olzhas Bektenov noted that tourism is a driver of socioeconomic development and has substantial potential. He added that Kazakhstan is resolved to build up cooperation with Russia in all areas.
Dmitry Chernyshenko stated that Kazakhstan was among the top three tourist destinations in Russia. “Over the first six months of 2025, the number of Kazakhstani tourists visiting Russia amounted to over 1.03 million and trips by Russian tourists to Kazakhstan exceeded 1.23 million,” he said.
The respective figures for 2024 were over 2.2 million and 2.6 million trips.
The Russian deputy prime minister invited Kazakhstani colleagues to attend the plenary session of the International Tourism Forum Travel Hub Commonwealth, titled The Year of Mountain Tourism in the CIS: New Cooperation Horizons. The forum will be held in Makhachkala, capital of Dagestan, on 1–3 October 2025.
“We are satisfied with our cooperation with Kazakhstan within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union. We believe that the link between our countries is a fundamental element of regional integration. We maintain trust-based dialogue at the CSTO, the SCO and CIS mechanisms. We welcome Kazakhstan’s accession to BRICS as a partner country,” Dmitry Chernyshenko emphasised.
