Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak paid a working visit to the Syrian Arab Republic. The Deputy Prime Minister had meetings with President of Syria Ahmed al-Sharaa, Minister of Foreign Affairs Asaad al-Shaibani and Secretary-General to the SAR Presidency Maher al-Sharaa.
The parties discussed the prospects of their countries’ interaction in the entire range of bilateral cooperation areas.
The Russian side pointed out the possibility of rendering assistance in restoring the energy sector and the humanitarian sphere, including the readiness to launch a number of facilities to supply the Syrian Arab Republic with fuel, food and pharmaceuticals. They also spoke of cooperation in the field of culture, science and education. As of now, almost 4,000 Syrians are studying at Russian universities, which may provide a proper basis for training skilled national personnel.
Alexander Novak suggested resuming the work of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation that proved to be a good instrument of mutual development in the economy.
“Russia and Syria are tied by many-year
bonds of friendship and partnership, tested by time and based on mutual respect
and account of each other’s interests. Hopefully, they will also develop for the benefit of our peoples at the new historic stage. The current visit was a good opportunity
to substantially discuss the prospects of Russian-Syrian relations,” said
Alexander Novak.
