The meeting was held on the sidelines of the International Environmental Conference.
Mikhail Mishustin’s meeting with Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov
Excerpts from the transcript:
Mikhail Mishustin: Mr Bektenov, friends, we are delighted to welcome you to the Republic of Altai. Thank you for accepting the invitation to attend the International Environmental Conference. We will discuss many environmental and nature protection issues.
I would like to use this occasion to convey our best regards and heartfelt wishes to President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev from President Vladimir Putin and me.
Good-neighbourliness, strategic partnership and alliance between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan are based on our long-standing friendship and mutual respect for the interests of our countries and our fraternal peoples.
Mr Bektenov, our Governments are working to implement the decisions adopted by the leaders of our countries in all spheres of our bilateral relations.
Russia is a leading foreign trade partner of Kazakhstan. We are encouraged that last year, it became the largest investor in the Kazakh economy.
We are working together to create the best possible investment and business climate, so that more Russian and Kazakh enterprises operate in each other’s markets, create joint ventures, and share investments and technologies.
There is considerable potential for new joint projects in energy, industry, transport, agriculture, the digital economy and many other spheres. These tasks are being tackled by our joint intergovernmental commission. The Russian side is chaired by Alexei Overchuk.
Of course, we always keep our focus on humanitarian cooperation, primarily in education. About 60,000 students from Kazakhstan are receiving higher education in Russia.
Russia’s leading universities have branches in Kazakhstan.
This September, the branch of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University will open at Dostoyevsky Omsk State University.
The Alley of Eternal Friendship of Kazakhstan and Russia, which opened in Astana in May, has become yet another symbol of unity
and mutual respect between our fraternal nations. Days of Kazakh Culture will
traditionally be held in Russia this autumn. Concerts by performers from
Kazakhstan always enjoy great success with Russian audiences. Mr Bektenov, I would like to use this occasion to invite you and your colleagues to attend
these events.
You have the floor. We have a large joint agenda.
Olzhas Bektenov: Mr Mishustin,
I am delighted to see you. Thank you very much for inviting me to take part in the International Environment Conference in such a beautiful place. I have already had the chance to enjoy the beautiful landscapes during this short time. I am confident we will have more opportunities to do so together with our colleagues.
We have just received the sad news of a plane crash in the Amur Region. On behalf of the Government of Kazakhstan, I would like to extend our sincere condolences.
Mr Mishustin, you have rightfully noted that relations between Russia and Kazakhstan are developing dynamically. This is largely thanks to the trust-based relations and constant dialogue between President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
The task of our two governments is to efficiently and proactively implement the agreements reached at the highest level.
I fully agree with you that we have significant potential for further development of our cooperation in the areas of investment, energy, agriculture, digital technologies, culture, and humanitarian exchanges. However, these are by no means the only areas where we can enhance our partnership, which is built entirely on the principles of strategic partnership and alliance.
As you know, this autumn, the 21st Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum will be held in Uralsk. I believe this platform also plays an important role in strengthening regional ties, providing an opportunity to discuss prospects for cooperation and to launch joint projects. We are actively preparing for it.
Overall, I would like to say that the Government of Kazakhstan intends to further strengthen and deepen relations with Russia.
