Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak and Minister of Trade of Türkiye Omer Bolat co-chaired the 19th meeting of the Joint Russian-Türkish Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
Alexander Novak spoke highly about bilateral trade and economic cooperation in energy, agriculture, industry, transport and logistics, customs and tourism. He also mentioned joint projects in education, sport, IT and many other spheres.
“Türkiye is one of Russia’s top three foreign trade partners. Our bilateral trade has increased by 130 percent over the past five years. I am confident that we will maintain this positive trend in the future, working to create favourable conditions for increasing Russian-Türkish trade to implement current and initiate new projects. We are satisfied with our cooperation in energy, a strategic sphere of our cooperation, including the civilian use of nuclear energy. We continue working on the construction of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, which is our flagship project in Türkiye. We are ready to implement other future projects in any format that will benefit both countries,” Alexander Novak stated.
He pointed out that bilateral trade reached $60 billion in 2024 and that Russia and Türkiye were working towards raising mutual trade to $100 billion in the next few years.
“Russia and Türkiye have been working for a long time to develop stable friendly and neighbourly relations based on dialogue and mutual respect, both in the sphere of trade and economic relations and to secure durable peace in the region. Our relations on the regional and international stages have been developing despite difficulties. The number and quality of our new joint projects in various spheres, including energy, have been growing day by day,” Trade Minister of Türkiye Omer Bolat said.
Alexander Novak briefed him on cooperation prospects in agriculture, tourism and sport. The two countries’ oversight agencies are strengthening their cooperation and monitoring the quality of products to ensure the access of Türkish products to Russia and Russian foods to the Türkish market. The Number of Russian tourists in Türkiye continues to grow. In 2024, over 6 million Russians visited the republic. The implementation of a programme for promoting the Russian tourist brand in Türkiye, the number of Türkish tourists in Russia increased to a record-high 101,000 visitors.
Türkish athletes take part in the main sports events in Russia. The two countries plan to sign a medium-term interdepartmental plan of sports events for 2026–2028 by the end of this year.
In conclusion of the 19th meeting of the Joint Russian-Türkish Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, Alexander Novak and Omer Bolat signed a final protocol outlining the key objectives in all spheres of mutual interest, in particular, the encouragement of investment in each other’s economies, customs regulation facilitation, and the promotion of industrial and energy cooperation.
