During their talks, the officials discussed the topical agenda of trade and economic cooperation and promising long-term venues of collaboration between Russia and Afghanistan.
On May 29, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk negotiated with Afghanistan’s Minister of Industry and Trade Haji Nooruddin Azizi in Kazakhstan, on the sidelines of the Astana International Forum 2025 (AIF 2025). Topical subjects during the talks were issues of trade and economic cooperation and prospective lines of interaction between Russia and Afghanistan. The officials reviewed key issues of enhancement of transport connectivity’s enhancement, development of interaction in the field of energy, geology, surface resources management, agriculture as well as opportunities for expanding bilateral trade, including deliveries of Afghan foodstuffs to the common EAEU market.
During the conversation, Alexei Overchuk noted that Russian companies were interested in the Afghan market.
The officials said that construction of the Trans-Afghan Railway was a key project in the sphere of transport and logistics. This project can completely unlock the transit potential of Afghanistan.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, agriculture also boasts an impressive potential for expanding bilateral cooperation. Our country (Russia) has accumulated substantial experience in the field of agrarian science and is ready to help Afghanistan boost the efficiency of its agricultural production sector.
Alexei Overchuk noted that it was necessary to jointly draft a regulatory legal framework for the future development of Russian-Afghan economic ties.
