In Windhoek, Namibia, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, and Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Russian-Namibian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation Yury Trutnev held a meeting with Minister of International Relations and Trade of the Republic of Namibia Selma Ashipala-Musavyi. The parties discussed Russian-Namibian relations and trade and economic ties, among other issues.
“Friendship between our countries continues to strengthen as part of the Intergovernmental Russian-Namibian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation,” Yury Trutnev said. “We managed to achieve impressive results. The year 2024 saw an almost twofold increase in bilateral trade. I hope we will continue working in the same atmosphere of mutual understanding and cooperation as we did during all those years.”
The 11th meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Namibian Commission to be held in Windhoek was discussed as well.
Yury Trutnev noted that following the 10th meeting of the Commission plans were outlined for further coordinated work aimed at achieving significant advances in bilateral business cooperation. Following the discussions, the Russian Government issued concrete instructions to the relevant agencies and organisations to implement the decisions outlined in the final minutes. In turn, the Russian side looks forward to seeing swift practical implementation of existing plans by its Namibian partners.
“Much remains to be done,” Yury Trutnev said.
Summing up the outcomes of the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasised the Russian side’s plans to expand bilateral ties. “We will develop relations between our countries and look forward to receiving the Namibian side’s proposals to hold a meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Namibian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. Our countries have long maintained friendly relations, and Russia will remain a dependable friend of Namibia in the future,” Yury Trutnev said in closing.
