Mikhail Mishustin: Good afternoon, Mr Min Aung Hlaing.
Welcome to the Government House of the Russian Federation.
Myanmar is our important partner in the Asia Pacific region. This year, we are marking the 25th anniversary of signing the Joint Declaration on Fundamental Principles of Friendly Relations between Russia and Myanmar.
I am convinced that your visit will expedite the development of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Myanmar in all spheres, and that our governments will facilitate the unfailing implementation of agreements, due to be reached following your talks with President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
Our trade and economic cooperation is developing successfully despite illegitimate sanctions against Russia and Myanmar, and mutual trade volumes are also expanding. There are favourable opportunities for expanding our cooperation in such fields as energy, the nuclear power industry, the transport infrastructure and agriculture.
We are contemplating new joint projects in the telecommunications sphere, information technologies, the food industry, minerals production and processing.
We suggest expanding collaboration in the investment sphere. Russian companies are ready to take part in the work of the Dawei special economic zone in Myanmar. This strategic project will make it possible to swell mutual trade volumes and to create jobs for small and medium-sized businesses.
We devote special attention to cooperation in the field of education. More and more students from Myanmar study at Russian universities. Following talks in the Kremlin, there are plans to sign an intergovernmental agreement on the mutual recognition of university degrees, qualifications and academic degrees. This will create a reliable legal framework for employing university graduates.
I would like to suggest that we expand tourist exchanges more actively.
Our citizens will find it interesting to become acquainted with the unique nature, cultural and spiritual traditions of Russia and Myanmar.
Mr Min Aung Hlaing, you now
have the floor.
Min Aung Hlaing (retranslated): Primarily, I would like to express my gratitude. Mr Mishustin, meeting with you is a great honour to me, and I am very glad.
At this meeting I want to discuss with you the cooperation between our countries, the situation in our country and political changes all over the world. Today we will discuss it with you.
This is my 11th visit to Russia. Every time in Russia I was received very warmly, friendly and hospitably. So, I would like to express my gratitude for this reception.
Relations between our two countries date back to 1948. This year marks the 77th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between our countries. Throughout these years, our relations and mutual trust have been strengthened.
In 2021, our relations have improved and the pace of cooperation between our two countries has been increasing.
We are planning to open two consulates general in the Russian Federation during my visit in order to improve diplomatic relations between our countries. And we are also planning to open another Consulate General in your country.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask you to open a Consulate General of the Russian Federation in the city of Mandalay.
Meanwhile, to improve relations between our two countries in the economy, we have established the Myanmar-Russia Committee on Economic Cooperation. The fifth meeting of this committee was successfully held in our country this year.
