Alexander Novak meets with Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkiye Alparslan Bayraktar
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak met with Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkiye Alparslan Bayraktar.
The officials focused on cooperation in the oil, gas, coal, power-generating and nuclear sectors and noted that collaboration in the energy sphere was a strategic aspect of cooperation between Russia and Turkiye.
They discussed future investment collaboration in the fuel and energy sector, the delivery of Russian energy resources to the Turkiye’s market, efforts to increase the share of mutual payments in national currencies and progress in the construction of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant whose four reactors are to start operating in the Republic of Turkiye by 2028.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted positive results of trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Turkiye throughout 2024. In 2023, Turkiye became Russia’s third-largest foreign trade partner in terms of exports and fifth-largest in terms of imports.
“Our countries continue their intensive political collaboration. We appreciate the principled position of the Turkish leadership to continue expanding mutually beneficial bilateral partnership with Russia despite pressure from Western states. I am confident that all efforts will be exerted via channels of the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation to achieve new results in the trade and economic sphere,” Alexander Novak stressed.
