Hanoi in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam hosted a meeting of co-chairs of the Russian-Vietnamese Intergovernmental Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation — Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam Tran Hong Ha. The event took place ahead of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin’s visit to Vietnam. a
The sides discussed trade and economic cooperation and projects in the field of science and education, as well as tourism.
Dmitry Chernyshenko thanked Tran Hong Ha for the meeting, readiness for dialogue and efforts to expand bilateral cooperation.
“Since the previous meeting, we have managed to resolve a number of important issues. For example, we have completely coordinated a comprehensive cooperation plan until 2030. I am confident that we will jointly achieve even more impressive successes in 2025. The Russian side is extremely interested in cooperation with Vietnam,” the Russian Deputy Prime Minister said.
Tran Hong Ha expressed confidence that, in 2025, the Russian-Vietnamese Intergovernmental Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation will achieve even more impressive successes, while deepening partnership between our countries.
“I would like to highlight the comprehensive strategic partnership and the fraternal ties between our countries. There are no obstacles to the further development of our cooperation. I wish Dmitry Chernyshenko and all members of the Russian delegation good health and success. May the upcoming negotiations during Mikhail Mishustin’s visit tomorrow be fruitful,” the Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam said.
Dmitry Chernyshenko noted that Vietnam is among the most popular destinations for Russian tourists in Southeast Asia.
“We are observing a consistent increase in tourist traffic from Russia to Vietnam. In 2023, the number of tourists tripled, and in 2024, it grew by nearly 85 percent, reaching 232,300 trips. This growth has undoubtedly been supported by the expansion of flight connections between our countries,” he said.
Currently, two Russian airlines operate flights to Vietnam and are actively expanding their flight schedules. Aeroflot offers three weekly flights from Moscow to Ho Chi Minh City, while IrAero connects Irkutsk with Phu Quoc, Hanoi, and Nha Trang. Russian carriers are also open to collaboration with Vietnamese airlines.
In the first nine months of 2024, the tourist flow from Vietnam to Russia increased by 25.4 percent, supported by the introduction of the electronic visa system. Additionally, several thematic events are planned for next year to showcase Russia’s tourism potential internationally.
The meeting participants also discussed the operations of the Hanoi branch of the Pushkin Russian Language Institute and new projects in scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
“At the conclusion of the meeting, I want to extend congratulations on the upcoming Vietnamese New Year, the Tet holiday, set to take place on 29 January. I wish you, the leadership of Vietnam, and the entire Vietnamese people prosperity, good health, and success in advancing your country's social and economic development,” Dmitry Chernyshenko said.
The meeting also included participants from relevant ministries, Russian foreign missions in Vietnam, and commercial enterprises. The Russian delegation featured representatives from the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, as well as the Bank of Russia.
