Alexander Novak speaks at the international economic forum, Sprouts: Russia and China – Mutually Beneficial Cooperation
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak was a speaker at the plenary session “Russia and China in the global economic game” of the international economic forum, Sprouts: Russia and China – Mutually Beneficial Cooperation, underway in Kazan.
Taking part in the discussion were Head of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Chinese officials, State Duma deputies and Chinese parliamentarians, as well as representatives of Russian and Chinese businesses.
The deputy prime minister noted China’s key role as a foreign trade partner of Russia. The two countries have consistently advocated the principles of respectful, equal, trust-based cooperation, and resolute mutual support on priority issues for both sides. Friendly and partnership relations between the two countries are successfully expanding in a wide range of areas both at the level of governments and businesses, the scientific and expert community.
“The trade dynamics, growing number of joint projects, and the intensity of business contacts testify to positive trends in such spheres as energy, industry, agriculture, ICT, culture, and education. Last year, we fulfilled our leaders’ instructions to increase Russian-Chinese trade in goods and services to $200 billion by 2024 ahead of schedule and even exceeded it. As a result, bilateral trade exceeds $240 billion. This is a historical maximum. The achieved results became possible due to the construction of new transport and logistics chains, the adaptation of payment mechanisms, and newly found alternative cooperation formats. This year, despite increased external pressure, trade between our countries continues to grow,” Alexander Novak noted.
The deputy prime minister also highlighted Tatarstan’s important role as a partner of Chinese provinces in business, science, culture, agriculture, and other areas.
