Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko met with President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez as part of his working visit to Havana.
The Cuban president expressed gratitude to Russia for its assistance in dealing with the aftermath of a strong hurricane and thanked the Russian deputy prime minister and his delegation for their productive visit. For his part, Dmitry Chernyshenko conveyed sincere greetings and words of support from President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
“Russia is rendering fraternal Cuba emergency assistance. I had a meeting with Vice President of the Council of Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas, during which we signed a Russian-Cuban intergovernmental agreement on allocating $60 million for the supply 80,000 tonnes of diesel fuel and another $2 million for equipment and spare parts. This assistance is important not only for restoring the infrastructure but also for ensuring stability in the energy sector of the Cuban economy,” Dmitry Chernyshenko stressed.
He also expressed confidence that Russian-Cuban relations had significant potential for growth and intensification.
“We are on the threshold of a new era in our cooperation. The joint projects we are developing will lay the foundation for stable economic interaction and prosperity for both countries. I would like to congratulate your country on being invited to BRICS as a partner state. This decision has been supported by all the member countries, which testifies to everyone’s interest in building up collaboration with Cuba as a pivotal participant in the group,” he added.
In conclusion, Dmitry Chernyshenko stressed the importance of scientific cooperation between the two countries. Russia regards Cuba as a reliable partner in implementing science and technology initiatives, which will become an important stage in promoting further cooperation.
