On September 14, 2013, the International University Sports Federation (FISU) office in Brussels received Russia’s official government declaration and Krasnoyarsk’s application for hosting the 29th World Winter University Games in 2019.
Signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, the government declaration guarantees compliance with FISU requirements with regard to organising the University Games, including visa-free entry to the Russian Federation for participants on the basis of their accreditation.
The application includes the Krasnoyarsk Territory’s presentation and a description of the sports, transport, medical and other essential infrastructure to be created for the Games.
A FISU commission will visit Krasnoyarsk from 3 to 6 October and the FISU Executive Committee will make its final decision on the venue for the Games on 9 November 2013.
It is expected that the 2019 University Games will involve 4,500 athletes from over 60 countries and feature competitions in the eight official University Games events (curling, ice-hockey, alpine skiing, ski races, biathlon, snowboard, figure skating and short track), as well as in three additional events (bandy, orienteering, and freestyle).
