On 4 April, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk visited Yerevan in the Republic of Armenia.
Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan received Alexei Overchuk during his visit. They discussed a wide range of issues regarding bilateral cooperation between Russia and Armenia, as well as efforts to unblock transport ties in the South Caucasus region. During the talks, the sides emphasised the strategic nature of their relations and the strength of bilateral contacts.
“I would like to note with satisfaction that representatives of the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation maintain highly intensive contacts. Nevertheless, there is a need for more dynamic communication because our agenda is so packed that we are not always able to fully discuss all the issues on our agenda,” the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia noted. “I am confident that, today, we will discuss an extremely wide range of issues, including economic issues, political issues, and issues connected with our regional situation and with the international situation. It is always a pleasure to meet with you and to be able to discuss all these issues. Welcome.”
In response, Alexei Overchuk stressed the strategic nature of bilateral relations, noting the high growth rates of mutual trade and Russian investments in the Armenian economy.
”Thank you very much, Mr Pashinyan. I am also very pleased to meet with you and discuss issues on our bilateral agenda. I would like to note, first of all, the strategic nature of the relationship between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Armenia. Of course, this is a relationship that has been built over the last 30 years, but it actually has a centuries-long history, and we have faced various challenges and threats, including economic crises and changes in the global economic and trade system, more than once. Despite this, we continue to strengthen our cooperation in the economic sphere, and last year we saw very good growth in mutual trade. And investments are flowing from Russia to Armenia. We are indeed glad to see the progress made by the Armenian economy as part of the greater economy of the Eurasian Economic Union, and the advantages that the Union provides are obvious,“ said the Deputy Prime Minister.
The parties reviewed the status of and prospects for strengthening trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Armenia, work to unblock transport links, including the resumption of railway service in the region, which is being conducted by the Trilateral Working Group, and other topics of mutual interest.
