On 14‒15 November, an interagency delegation led by Alexei Overchuk visited Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. During the visit, the deputy prime minister met with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, with whom he discussed trade and economic cooperation between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan. During the talks, both sides spoke highly about the high level of bilateral relations and identified guidelines for further development of multifaceted interaction between the two countries.
The visit continued with a meeting of co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Russian-Turkmen Commission on Economic Cooperation, which was attended by representatives of competent government agencies, ministries and departments of Russia and Turkmenistan. The chair of the commission’s Russian chapter, Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, and the chair of the Turkmen chapter, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, considered the prospects of partnership in transport and logistics, industry, tax administration, land and water cadastre, public finance management, infrastructure development, fuel and energy sector, culture, humanitarian affairs and other areas.
The co-chairs welcomed the active cooperation of Turkmenistan with Russian regions.
The meeting of the co-chairs took place ahead of the 12th meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Turkmen Commission on Economic Cooperation, scheduled to be held in Moscow on 6‒7 December. Bilateral meetings will take place on the sidelines of the event between competent Russian agencies and their Turkmen counterparts and partners, during which the parties will be able to coordinate their positions on all current issues and jointly identify prospects for further cooperation.
