Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk had a working meeting with Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Japarov on the sidelines of the 25th St Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The talks focused on high-priority aspects of expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation and prospects for deepening integration processes in the Eurasian Economic Union. Special attention was paid to energy and transport cooperation.
“Kyrgyzstan is our strategic partner and ally in the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, the EAEU, and the CIS. Russia accounts for over 30 percent of Kyrgyzstan’s foreign trade, and the country remains our valued trade partner. In January-April 2022, mutual trade soared by 25 percent on the same period of 2021. We cooperate actively in the bilateral format, within the Intergovernmental Commission and in the EAEU format. We feel optimistic about the future and are committed to expanding our trade and economic ties across the board. Major Russian companies operate in Kyrgyzstan, and energy and transport projects have very good prospects,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
