On 11 November, Alexei Overchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and head of the Russian delegation, met with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, on the sidelines of the COP26 Climate Change Conference.
The discussion touched on a wide range of issues on the climate agenda, with a focus on the impact of climate change on the socioeconomic infrastructure of the Russian Federation and measures taken to mitigate it.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised the importance of a pragmatic and balanced approach to climate and the global green energy transition, without placing excessive burdens on the consumer. Mr Overchuk stressed that Russia is in favour of developing consensus responses to global challenges based on the principles of equitable multilateral cooperation.
Secretary-General Guterres expressed approval of Russia’s ambition and efforts to achieve carbon neutrality.
The parties also exchanged views on the individual results of talks being held at the conference.
