Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk took part in a meeting of the High-Level Group of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of Russia and Belarus. The event was held via videoconference.
The participants in the meeting reviewed current tasks of Russian-Belarusian trade and economic collaboration, including cooperation in the transport, construction, digital, cultural and humanitarian areas.
They focused on the degree of readiness of issues to be considered at the upcoming meetings of the Council of Ministers of the Union State and the Supreme State Council of the Union State.
Alexei Overchuk stressed that the Republic of Belarus remained Russia’s key strategic partner and one of the Russian Federation’s main trade partners in the CIS space. “In January-April 2021, trade between Russia and Belarus grew by 31.9 percent on the same period in 2020 and amounted to $11.5 billion, and by 2.8 percent on the same period in 2019, which demonstrates a continuing trend towards an increase and expansion of our trade and economic cooperation. I am confident that we must extend all-round support to each other and build up Russian-Belarusian cooperation,” he said.
