Important aspects of cooperation in trade, investment, energy, industry, transport infrastructure, agriculture and culture were discussed.
Excerpts from the transcript:
Dmitry Medvedev: Mr President, gentlemen, colleagues,
First of all, Mr President, welcome to Moscow. You and I met on the sidelines of the East Asian summits in Vientiane in 2016 and in your home country in 2017. Soon enough we will get the chance to meet again during the East Asian Summit in Thailand.
Tomorrow, you have a big Russian programme as you are heading to Sochi. It is not too cold in Moscow, but it is quite warm in Sochi now, which is a sign of our most friendly intentions regarding you, your delegation and the Republic of the Philippines.
Regarding the most recent developments, our relations have continued at a good pace. Our trade has almost doubled over the past 18 months or so, which is good. I give you credit for this, since you have always spoken in favour of expanding trade and economic ties with our country. Our goal now is to consolidate these trends. We are interested in more joint projects in a variety of areas, including energy, industry, transport infrastructure, agriculture, and, of course, various cultural projects.
Documents that are important for promoting our relations will also be signed during your visit. So, I am delighted to welcome you to Moscow here in the Government House building.
Rodrigo Duterte (via interpreter): Mr Prime Minister, I am very pleased to see you. Thank you for your hospitality. In 2017, during my first visit, we successfully laid the foundation for bilateral relations. Since then, we have seen significant progress in our strategic defence partnership. Our meetings in 2017 were the first, one-of-a-kind event which served as an important basis for expanding our relations.
We are striving to expand and consolidate our cooperation in trade, investment, defence, energy, science and technology, as well as other areas. We want to consolidate current progress and see a firm commitment by both sides to further enhance our relations.
Thank you, Mr Prime Minister, for the opportunity to discuss our relations and cooperation in this format.
