In his opening speech at the World Press Briefing in Sochi for broadcasters who will cover the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak said that representatives of the television industry are important participants in the Olympic movement as the Olympic Games have traditionally attracted record numbers of viewers.
To provide the most comfortable conditions for the media, an advanced media infrastructure will be created in Sochi. The Main Media Centre in the Olympic Park and the Mountain Media Centre in Krasnaya Polyana are almost ready to receive journalists. About 15,000 media people will come to Sochi during the Olympics. The Main Media Centre will operate from January 7, 2014, a month before the Olympics, until March 17 when the Paralympic Games will finish. From January 24 and throughout the Games the centre will work round the clock. Dmitry Kozak said that in addition to the direct duty to provide working conditions for accredited media, an infrastructure designed for non-accredited journalists will be created in the centre of Sochi.
Mr Kozak expressed confidence that the Olympic Games have given an impulse to the development of television technology. The 2014 Winter Olympics will be broadcast in HD format. In addition, Ultra HD technology will also be used in Sochi.
