In his opening remarks, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, the chairman of the organisational committee, said that the celebration should be held at the highest level, and asked everyone present to actively contribute to the preparation process.
Mr Rogozin stated that the meeting's main purpose was to evaluate the readiness for the festivities, as well as to identify the necessary measures to improve the living conditions of Battle of Stalingrad veterans residing in the Volgograd region.
At the meeting, it was stressed that the celebration of the seventieth anniversary of the defeat of the German forces in Stalingrad due to take place on February 2, 2013 in Volgograd will be held under the motto "From Stalingrad to the Great Victory". The celebration will launch a series of events in Russia's regions to celebrate May 9, 2015, which marks the seventieth anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
