During the conference call, Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets recalled that in 2013, over 860,000 individuals (including 754,000 this year graduates) took the Unified State Exam. On the whole, the results of the Unified State Exam were good this year, however over 4,000 school students failed the exams in the Russian language and mathematics. According to education officials, this is due to the fact that many regions have adopted a more unbiased form of standardised tests. And this is a good reason to look into the quality of education, Olga Golodets said.
Ms Golodets urged regional authorities to strengthen control over 100-point scores on the Unified State Exam. She added that the examination papers of all 3,000 school students scoring 100 points in the graduation exam should be re-checked.
The participants in the meeting paid special attention to violations uncovered during the administration of the exam. According to Ms Golodets, in some regions over 140 exam papers had been posted on the internet before the exam was held. She said that the source of 138 papers has been uncovered, and relevant measures have been taken up to the cancellation of the examination results in some cases. “This should not be repeated,” she said. “It is necessary to develop special protection measures to prevent leaks”.
