The development of shipbuilding on the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea is a national task, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin told journalists after visiting shipyards in St Petersburg. In his view, it is advisable to promote the construction of large and technologically sophisticated ships, including the icebreaker fleet, in North-Western Russia.
Meanwhile, there are plans to develop shelf shipbuilding mostly in the Far East where the orders for the needs of Russian oil companies will be placed.
Mr Rogozin added that the Government is considering the option of attracting a strategic foreign partner to the shipbuilding sector. Calculations and analyses will show what Russian shipyards are unable to build in a timely manner. Such projects will be offered to a foreign strategic partner – the latter will be chosen after talks and tenders, he said. There are plans to prepare the relevant contract on the basis of cross-obligations where a strategic partner either transfers technology or invests in building shipyards in Russia. Only such relations will be taken for consideration, the Deputy prime Minister stressed.
