Dmitry Medvedev’s remarks:
Please accept my greetings ahead of Health Worker Day.
It’s an auspicious coincidence that this awards ceremony, the thirteenth, is being held on June 13, 2013. Some argue that thirteen is not a lucky number, but I don’t think those present in this hall today would agree with that.
I’m truly pleased to be attending the ceremony – not for the first time, mind you – because this is a very positive event. It’s always well organised, and those who are taking the floor here speak from their heart. The six categories in which the Vocation award is being presented form the backbone of modern-day medicine, the backbone of your work.
What else can I say as Prime Minister? In recent years, we have, indeed, taken some steps to make a difference. Not everything we’ve done has produced the desired result, though. But please don’t be too harsh in your judgments. We’ve tried our hardest and we’ll continue our efforts further. And even the Finance Ministry will try to help, although it happens to stand in opposition at times (applause)… I’ll tell them all about your applause…
Here’s my main wish to you… You do so much good for people, but your efforts may not always be rewarded with thanks, although, more often than not, they are appreciated, of course. So my hope for you is that we, the people who turn to you for consulting and treatment, have the courage to express their gratitude. I think this is crucial for you to be able to go on healing us all. Once again, please accept my greetings and also my wishes of good health. Thank you!
