Transcript of the
beginning of the meeting:
Najib Razak: Thank you for taking the time to visit us and to be part of the ASEAN. We see that there is a lot of potential in our relations. Traditionally, our relationship has been based more on defence and space, but we think there is scope to expand the relationship to include other areas. Our trade has been increasing steadily although the volume is relatively small, but again, there is scope for expansion. We have more than 2,000 Malaysian students studying in Russia, particularly in the field of medicine. So we believe that Russian technology in terms of science and research, including in the field of space, has a lot of potential for us to work closely together.
Once again thank you for visiting us and we look forward to maintaining good relations with Russia.
Dmitry Medvedev: Thank you. Mr Prime Minister. It gives me great pleasure to greet you and to compliment you on the excellent organisation of the ASEAN and East Asia summits.
The official dinner has just ended. I was greatly impressed by the beautiful performance you have shown.
