Dmitry Medvedev: The terrorist attacks against our plane and in Paris are terrible tragedies. These events have exacerbated political tensions. War has been proclaimed against the entire civilised world. This is a global and an absolutely real threat. The position of some Western countries regarding Russia looks particularly puzzling in this light. It can be summarised as follows: Let the world fall apart but we won't cooperate with Russia. ISIS is an evil but not the absolute evil, they seem to say; it's not enough to merit cooperation with Russia. We don’t like al-Assad and we sympathise with Ukraine, while Russia has a completely different stance, they say, so there won’t be any joint work, normal contacts or discussions of the Syrian issue. Our goals in Syria differ from those of Russia. We are boycotting Russia; we aren’t friends and we’ll isolate it, they seem to say. Meanwhile, planes are blown up and people are killed in Paris, Syria and other places. This short-sighted position is damaging to the world and these countries' people. Of course, Russia can live without these contacts. Russia will continue to fight terrorism alone, and it will win this battle. The West may survive too, but at what cost? I firmly believe that we must join forces in this fight.
