Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets has held a working meeting with British Ambassador to Russia Tim Barrow. The talks focused on organising the Year of Russian Culture in the UK and the Year of British Culture in Russia in 2014. Earlier, by the President’s directive Ms Golodets was appointed Co-chair from Russia at the event’s organising committee.
On the whole, the parties approved the programme of the events, which includes about 100 different activities. In particular, the Year of Russian Culture will feature guest performances by the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre, the Boris Eifman Ballet and the Mariinsky Theatre, a Russian chamber music festival, an exhibition of paintings by Kazimir Malevich, a Russian film festival, a Russian space exhibition, and other events.
The Year of British Culture in Russia will include performances by the National Theatre, the Globe Theatre, an exhibition of expressionist painter Francis Bacon, exhibitions of contemporary British artists and a British film festival, among other events.
The events held during the Year of Culture in the two countries will also include educational and scientific seminars, including a forum of leading university chancellors to be held in Oxford.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky and Special Presidential Envoy for International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoy.
