The 10th International Exhibition of Arms, Military Equipment and Ammunition Russia Arms Expo (RAE) is underway in Nizhny Tagil from 9 to 12 September 2015. One of the largest expositions of Russian and foreign armaments, Russia Arms Expo is held every other year at the exhibition centre at the Nizhny Tagil Institute of Metal Testing.
The demonstration of armaments at Russia Arms Expo is held at the Staratel test range where military equipment can be tested for precision firing capabilities at targets with different stages of complexity. These demonstrations are a reliable method of assessing weapons characteristics in real time.
This year, exposition participants and guests will see for the first time the armoured vehicles based on the Armata combat platform such as the Т-14 main battle tank, the Т-15 heavy infantry fighting vehicle and the BREM T-16 armoured recovery vehicle, as well as the 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV self-propelled gun.

This exhibition is held every other year in Nizhny Tagil. It is a large-scale venue for demonstrating the latest Russian weapons, and it invariably generates considerable interest, as we can see today. This year’s exhibition has attracted the largest number of participants ever. Over 60 countries, or nearly one-third of the world’s nations, have sent delegations here. We see representatives from 160 major Russian and foreign companies from Turkey, the Republic of Korea, France, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and other countries. We are certainly happy to see so many foreign representatives. It is evidence of the considerable interest in the exposition and in our weapons.
The exhibition in Nizhny Tagil is also a very interesting and complex military show, although it’s not staged for the sake of demonstration. Experts value this exhibition for its multi-format nature, for combining business and information programmes, for giving professionals access to everything Russia has created for the defence of its borders and the borders of its partners, for promoting our defence products on the domestic and foreign markets and for strengthening military and technical cooperation.
Today, our country is a key international player in the area of military-technical cooperation, and is the world’s second largest exporter of military equipment and weapons. We would certainly like to maintain our positions. Export revenues are a significant and meaningful factor in our budget planning. The current portfolio of orders amounts to $40 billion, and we are certainly interested in expanding it.
Some of the models displayed at the Nizhny Tagil arms show have no analogues and were created using Russian technology and know-how. This is of crucial importance in light of import substitution. Today it is clear to everyone that our country is finding itself in a complex situation. The policy for substituting imported technology is not situational or temporary, it’s a long-term course. It won’t change our plans regarding the implementation of the state armaments programme or the development of our military-technical cooperation. I would like to specifically emphasise this point here.
One of our strategic goals is modernising and technically re-equipping our defence plants. It is included in the Policy Priorities of the Government of the Russian Federation to 2018. This work is in full swing. And it will be continued, even under fairly complicated budget conditions. Naturally, this will also shape our support of the Russian defence-industrial complex’s potential, and will help Russia maintain its leading positions on the global arms and military equipment markets.
