Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev spoke with his Icelandic counterpart Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson over the phone at Iceland's initiative.
They discussed issues of bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Mr Medvedev explained the reasons behind economic countermeasures against Iceland, which the Russian Government introduced with regard to countries that have joined the EU's anti-Russian sanctions.
The prime ministers noted the importance of continued mutually advantageous trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Iceland in areas not affected by restrictions.
