Transcript of the beginning of the meeting:
Dmitry Medvedev: Mr Prime Minister, first of all, I would like to congratulate you on the third gold medal won by your national team.I believe this is a nice welcome present – your sportsmen accomplished what they have planned.
You have a special mission here because Hungary will host the next World Aquatics Championships.
This is a good opportunity for us to meet and to discuss the development of Russian-Hungarian cooperation.
Despite current problems in relations with the European Union, our relations with Hungary remain stable and friendly. We cooperate in various areas – from energy to agriculture – and we consider this to be beneficial for our countries and peoples.
Thank you once again for coming here and for attending this interesting sporting event. Welcome.
Viktor Orban (via interpreter): Thank you very much, Mr Prime Minister.
Context
I would also like to greet you. The World Aquatics Championships was well-organised. The event was held in line with high standards. I would also like to say that I have recently met with President Vladimir Putin in Budapest.
We are now living through difficult times, but we believe that, despite all difficulties, Hungary was managed to preserve all positive aspects of its relations with Russia. This will give us a good chance for developing our relations in the future. I would like to say that Hungary will be a good partner of Russia in ensuring peace and in solving other issues.
Once again, thank you very much for this opportunity to take part in this wonderful event.
