As a follow-up to the meeting, the sides signed the Russian and Belarusian governments’ action plan to create further conditions to promote trade and economic cooperation.
Excerpts from the transcript of the beginning of the meeting:
Dmitry Medvedev: We’ve discussed our relations – both bilateral and in the context of the Eurasian Union - relatively recently. But now we have another issue on the agenda, our main integration association. I’m referring to the Union State of Russia and Belarus and the Supreme State Council that we convene from time to time. Many documents that are useful for the development of the Union State have been prepared for the Council.
Andrei Kobyakov: Our dialogue is sufficiently intensive, indeed. One reason is that our trade and economic relations require vigorous efforts that would allow us to recover the scale that we had in good years. In accordance with our instructions, our experts drafted a plan of measures to create further conditions for promoting trade and economic cooperation. This is a specific plan with specific items. I think that we should complete its implementation in the first half of the year. This will allow us to restore the scale that we had literally two years ago and produce positive influence in terms of our trade and economic cooperation.
Dmitry Medvedev: Let’s look at this plan. If everything is fine, we’ll sign it.
Andrei Kobyakov: Absolutely.
Dmitry Medvedev: Agreed, then.
