The prime ministers discussed Russian-Kazakhstani economic cooperation, as well as interaction as part of the Customs Union and Eurasian Economic Union.
Transcript of the beginning of the meeting:
Karim Massimov: Welcome, Mr Medvedev! I am very glad to see you here in Almaty. The last time we met in Sochi you showed me around the Olympic City. We are also aspiring to hold the Winter Olympic Games, and I would be grateful to get some advice from you and to share experience. I also suggest that we discuss issues on the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) agenda before the upcoming session. In addition, the Eurasian Economic Union will begin operation in two weeks, and I would like to share opinions on the directions of our work. Welcome!
Dmitry Medvedev: Mr Massimov, thank you for inviting me to visit Almaty ahead of the meeting of SCO states’ heads of government, which will be held in Astana. Also, we have an excellent opportunity to see where you plan to hold the Olympics if everything goes well. And, of course, we can share opinions on the current state of our bilateral relations, on the situation in the world, and talk about the latest economic trends. We can talk about oil, which is a relevant topic for our countries because we are major exporters and there are various events taking place on the oil market that naturally affect the economy.
Also, on the eve of our major integration events with the participation of heads of state, we can talk about progress made in our integration project, all the more so as it will be replenished with new participants, and that means we still need to discuss and agree upon certain items. So, thank you very much for finding such a wonderful place for these talks. Thank you.
