Transcript of the beginning of the meeting:
Dmitry Medvedev: Mr Atambayev, I’m glad to see you again, this time in Moscow rather than Sochi. This is a great opportunity to exchange views on our relations. With your active involvement, our relations have reached a qualitatively new level over the past few years, and I’m not just saying this to be nice.
We have many issues on our agenda, including integration and bilateral issues. We closely follow developments in Kyrgyzstan – your successes and your problems. We are aware of the economic difficulties in your country, but then again no one has it easy these days, as they say. I can confirm that we will honour all our agreements on the national, presidential, and governmental levels in order to maintain and promote our strong, strategic bilateral relations.
Once again, welcome to Moscow. Thank you for coming to the opening ceremony of our Winter Olympics. I believe it was an exciting show.
Almazbek Atambayev: Thank you, Mr Medvedev. Thank you for inviting me to the opening ceremony. It was my first time at the opening of the Olympic Games, and I was thrilled by the spectacular and amazing show. The two or three hours that the ceremony lasted just flew by. It was a breathtaking and awesome spectacle. It shows Russia’s potential. I believe that much of the credit for the successful completion of the Olympic construction and the grand opening goes to the Russian Government. I believe that the closing ceremony will also be a magnificent show.
Dmitry Medvedev: Are you coming?
Almazbek Atambayev: I'd like to Mr Medvedev, but I’m not sure if it will work out.
As you mentioned earlier, today we have a great opportunity to discuss primarily our economic projects, which we discussed back when you were in the office of President. We discussed the ambitious economic projects that are already being implemented. I firmly believe that our agreements will not remain on paper. This belief is corroborated by our still limited record of joint work, but the things that the new leadership of Kyrgyzstan has agreed with the leaders of Russia in recent years are being implemented.
Dmitry Medvedev: In turn, I’d like to assure you that everything that you and I agreed will be implemented as well.
