The Moscow State University of Technology (STANKIN) was established on July 12, 1930 for training specialists for the machine-tool industry.
Currently, STANKIN trains specialists in innovative engineering technology, advanced information technology and industry-specific economics.
The university has three departments: the Engineering Technology and Equipment Department, the Information Technology and Management Systems Department, and the Economics and Management Department. The university is also home to the Innovative Additive Technology Lab, the Innovative Technology and Tools Research Centre, and the Industrial Energy Efficiency Research and Education Centre. Also, the university has small-sized innovation-driven enterprises.
In 2008, the State Engineering Centre was created at STANKIN in order to ensure the long-term technical independence and competitiveness of the Russian machine-building industry. Revenue generated by the projects carried out by STANKIN account for over 80% of the financing used to support research at the institution. In 2012, the centre implemented 101 major R&D projects.
The university has more than 500 faculty and research staff, of whom more than 100 are professors and holders of doctorates. STANKIN is home to six dissertation councils. In 2012, 12 doctoral and 46 candidate of science theses were defended at STANKIN, 147 patent applications were filed, and 106 patents were granted. Support was provided to 151 patents and certificates, and 506 articles were published in top-rated specialised Russian and foreign journals, including 95 articles in journals included in Scopus and Web of Science.
Together with its international partners, STANKIN is helping to develop several international research, education and industry centres.
