The International University Sports Federation was founded in 1948. It is one of the world’s largest sports organisations and the highest body of the student sports movement with 163 member-states. Its headquarters are located in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The main events staged by the FISU, the University Games, are second to the Olympic Games in importance and representativeness.
The International Federation of University Sport consists of five continental federations: the European University Sport Association, the Asian University Sport Federation, the Federation of African University Sports, and the Continental University Sport Association of America (Organización Deportiva Universitaria Panamericana), the Oceania University Sports Association.
FISU’s management and administrative bodies are the general assembly and the executive committee. Currently the FISU president is Claude-Louis Gallien of France. His term expires in 2015.
